One of the very first things we discuss with anyone bringing a pet to our practice is DIET. We strongly believe that feeding our pets the best food possible will reduce or eliminate many of the nagging health problems that frustrate owners and cause their pet unnecessary discomfort and vet visits, as well as a reduced quality and length of life. While we feel that raw feeding is best, we recognize that many people are unwilling or unable, for various reasons, to feed an exclusively raw diet. Many of our clients feed popular grocery store or mass-market brands of dubious quality. To analyze this more fully, we have started comparing the ingredients in some of the common foods with a high-quality food. We chose Wellness, made by Old Mother Hubbard, which is one of several superior foods that we sell in our clinic, and which is also widely available at local pet supply stores. You can also refer to our Learning Center for the "How to Select a Top-Quality Pet Food" handout, and our dog and cat food lists, giving a number of options for high-quality foods available locally.
Select your current brand from the list below, read and compare! If your exact formula isn't there (for example, if you feed Iams Small Bites or Puppy instead of Chunks), select the food closest to your brand. Most of the ingredient lists for the same manufacturer are very similar. More foods will be added to the list as we complete the comparison and analysis.
