Our Pets
Just like our clients, we are all proud pet owners, and love to show them off!
We hope you'll enjoy meeting our pets and getting to know a little bit about
them and their care.

This handsome old guy is Sprocket, owned by our Practice Manager Lori and
her husband, Tom.  Sprocket was born sometime around the spring of 1993.

At his age, Sprocket has some mobility issues, with some spondylosis in his
spine and decreased movement in his pelvis.  Thanks to a daily joint support
supplement, essential fatty acids and an herbal pain-relief called Dog Gone
Pain, along with chiropractic care with Dr. White, he gets around pretty well!

Golden Retrievers are prone to allergies and related skin and ear problems, but
Sprocket avoids all this, thanks to his 90% raw food diet.  He gets Honest
Kitchen (a dehydrated raw food diet, that is rehydrated with warm water),
either their Force or Embark variety, some Nature's Variety raw frozen food
(either venison, rabbit, lamb or chicken), and a small amount of Wellness dry
food (just a handful, either their chicken, lamb or fish formula).  In addition, he
is given a blend of Standard Process Canine Adrenal, Hepatic and Renal
support to help his immune system and organ function.  He also gets raw
bones about once a week.

Sprocket was Lori's first foster dog for Retrieve A Golden of Minnesota back in
the fall of 1997, when he was four years old.  She thought she had him placed
with a family, but they changed their minds, so she ended up adopting him
herself!  Sprocket got the blue ribbon in his obedience class, and went on to
serve as a Therapy Dog with the Pals On Paws chapter of Therapy Dogs
International.  His favorite thing is trips to the lake, and he is still the Tug Of
War Champion of The World!
Meet Ozark!  He also belongs to Lori and Tom.  We guess his birthdate to be
sometime in the fall of 1999.  He is a Great Pyrenees/Lab (or golden) mix, and
he weighs about 108#.

Ozark has the best teeth!  He's never had any dentistry done, but he has
virtually no plaque or tartar buildup, thanks to the raw bones he gets about
once a week.

Ozark gets at least 50% raw food every day.  His dry food is switched often
between Nature's Variety and Wellness, and between varieties.  Sometimes
it's lamb, chicken, fish or venison.  His raw food is usually Nature's Variety,
either the chicken, lamb, venison or rabbit, and he frequently gets a raw egg,
some plain yogurt, or some cottage cheese mixed in.  Other than an essential
fatty acid supplement, Ozark is in great shape and isn't given any additional
supplements at this time.

Ozark's hobbies include wrestling in the yard with his brother, Brody the Great
Pyrenees, and snuggling on the couch with Mom.  He was a stray in the Detroit
Lakes area, and joined Lori & Tom through NorthStar Great Pyrenees Club
Rescue when he was about 2 years old.
This is Brody.  He is a Great Pyrenees and was born on an Arabian Horse farm
in Illinois in May of 2005.  Things didn't work out in his first home, and he came
to Minnesota to live with the owner's cousin, and she simply didn't have the
space for a large dog.  He went to NorthStar Great Pyrenees Club Rescue, and
joined Lori & Tom's family on New Year's Eve 2006/2007.

Brody is a bit on the small side for a Pyr, with a lean build and only about 84#.
He does have some issues with his right hip and knee, so he is on a joint
support supplement to help prevent the development of painful arthritis.  He
has beautiful shiny white teeth (thanks to those raw bones!), and otherwise is
fed the same as Ozark.

He loves playing with Ozark and his new brother Darwin, patrolling the yard
(Pyrs are livestock guardians), barking at anything and everything, and
monitoring everything through "his" bay window.
Say hello to Darwin the golden retriever, the latest addition to Lori & Tom's
family!  He just joined the pack on 11/21/07 through Retrieve A Golden of
Minnesota.  He was a stray in St. Cloud whose owners declined to claim him.
While he was in doggy jail, they guessed his age at about three, but Lori thinks
he may be younger.

His story is a sad one.  He's very small for a golden, height-wise, but has a
big-boned frame.  He should weigh 70-75#, but was barely over 50# when he
was picked up by the shelter.  His coat was so matted and filthy he had to be
partially shaved, revealing sores and skin infections.  His nails were so long he
was walking on the backs of his feet.  Once in rescue with RAGOM, his foster
mom got him on the road to recovery, and his new family is continuing the job.

Darwin eats basically what Ozark and Brody eat, but a higher percentage of
raw... and more of it!  He also gets Standard Process Canine Whole Body
Support to help him on his road to recovery.  By 4
/25/08 he had reached his
ideal weight of 72# and is
a happy, healthy, beautiful boy with a full, plush coat
and great skin to go with that sunny golden personality.

Darwin is a total love-bug and will snuggle with anyone, any time, anywhere.
He also loves toys (stuffed, preferably, so they can be un-stuffed), playing with
Ozark and Brody,
running in his "mud bog," and trying to sneak Mom's coffee
when she forgets and leaves it on the end table when she leaves the room.
This handsome guy is Stanley, who belongs to our Veterinary Assistant (and
Healing Touch for Animals Practitioner) Shari and her husband Kory.  Stanley is
an Australian Shepherd and was born 11/4/06.  Stanley was the only survivor
of his litter.  His littermates all died at 4 weeks of age!  He joined Shari and
Kory's family when he was 9 months old.

Stanley is a lean, active dog.  He is fed a home-made raw diet.  He gets raw
meaty bones in the morning and a ground organ mix at night.  His diet rotates
between beef, pork, chicken, rabbit and venison.  He also gets 2 teaspoons of
yogurt, 2 fish oil capsules, 2 teaspoons of Immune Support and one vitamin E
capsule.

Stanley loves to play ball and Frisbee, and wrestling with Kory.  Stanley is also
in intermediate agility.

Gracie, aka Cyclops
Greylick
Malcolm
Trooper
Dr. Levy's cats are all domestic shorthairs that she has taken in through
various rescue or humane society activities.  Malcolm and Darcy were born
around 1998, Greylick and Gracie aka Cyclops around 1999, and Trooper and
Bagwua around 2000.  (She does have some other cats, also, who didn't feel
like participating in the photo session!)

All her cats are fed Wellness dry and canned food.  Canned food is very
important for cats for the moisture content, as cats don't tend to drink
sufficient water on their own.
Alice
Ariel
Rowdy
Tonka
Tootsie
Just like the cats, all Dr. Levy's dogs were strays or rescues of one sort or
another.  Alice is an Australian Shepherd mix, and Ariel is a terrier mix (you
might have seen her at the clinic... she comes to work with Dr. Levy almost
every day!).  Rowdy is a husky/shepherd mix born around 1998, and Tonka is
an "Alaskan Greyhound" mix born in 1999.  Tootsie is an "Italian Pug," born
around 1998.  She also has Cheyenne (a small terrier mix) who is of
approximately 1994 vintage, and Dilbert (who looks like a small black golden
retriever, so maybe lab/springer?) who was born around 1996.

All the dogs are fed Nature's Variety and Wellness dry foods, Nature's Variety
raw food, raw bones, raw chicken pieces, and are supplemented with Missing
Link daily.

Dr. Levy also has chickens (at left).  They are fed layer ration, scratch feed,
fresh fruits and vegetables, Nature's Variety raw food and leftovers.  The
chickens are for pasture improvement and bug control!  They do NOT eat them!
They come from Chicken Run Rescue.  (Did you KNOW there is a chicken
rescue???)
