Understanding Holistic Care at CBAH
Thank you for your interest in Central Bird & Animal Hospital!  In order for you to become
familiar with our approach to holistic medicine and the role you will play in your pet’s care
and treatment, please read this information carefully.

While we do offer
conventional care such as new pet exams, vaccinations, spay/neuter
surgery, heartworm testing, etc., we handle each and every patient from a
holistic
perspective
.  “Holistic” seems to mean something different to each person who hears the
word, but at CBAH it means we are going to always consider the entire animal, and treat
each pet as the individual being that it is.  While vaccinations are a part of preventive health
care, we evaluate each pet’s specific risk factors and overall health, and then recommend a
minimal-vaccine plan that fits those needs.  We will always consider diet, whole food
supplements, essential fatty acids, probiotics, Chinese herbs, flower essences, homeopathic
remedies, chiropractic care, and/or other natural treatments, and not immediately resort to
prescribing a “magic pill” that will quickly suppress symptoms but not move your pet one
step closer to true lasting wellness.
If you are not looking for true holistic veterinary
care, this is not the clinic for you.  We will not provide services that do not fit our
philosophy simply because someone “expects” it.

As a holistic specialty practice, our appointments tend to be about twice as long as those
at conventional veterinary clinics.  We feel this time is important, so that we can discuss
your pet in detail, and present the range of preventive, diagnostic, and/or treatment
options you might wish to consider.  We believe in
education and partnership.  It is our
ethical obligation (and
our promise) to always present all relevant information, as well as
our
best treatment recommendations.  Your role in this partnership is to consider this
information, make a decision that best suits your needs, and then
follow those
recommendations and remain in touch with us
regarding results and progress.  It is
also very important that you make (
and keep) follow-up appointments, and give the
treatment plan time to work.

While we are happy to serve as your primary veterinary practice, if you are coming to us for
a holistic consultation, chiropractic, homeopathy, or diet consultation, you may wish to
maintain your relationship with another veterinary practice for primary care.  This is not
uncommon, and we work in partnership with numerous clinics in this capacity.  We will ask
that you provide us with copies of your pet’s medical history at least 24 hours prior to your
appointment, and we will send copies of your visit with CBAH to your other veterinarian.
This exchange of information is an important part of making sure your pet receives
appropriate, consistent care.

Some clients must travel a considerable distance in search of holistic care for their pets.  In
some cases, a phone consultation can be done, but please understand that without an
actual physical examination, our doctors are limited, legally and due to lack of hands-on
information, in what they are able to recommend.  Phone consultations can also be done for
existing clients.  For any phone consultation, it is critical that you be available at the
scheduled time and able to devote your full attention to the discussion.  You will first speak
to the front desk staff to provide your credit card information for payment.  Following your
appointment, your invoice will be compiled so that the receptionist can tell you the exact
amount that will be charged to your card.

Due to an extremely busy appointment schedule, our doctors cannot spend time on the
phone with non-clients.  If you have general questions or simply need more information
about our practice, our receptionists and technicians are able to answer those questions for
you.  If necessary, they can relay specific questions to the doctor and get back to you.
